A lot of times we are the ones holding ourselves back from reaching our full potential. We make excuses for ourselves, and find reasons why we can’t do something. I watched a show called Born Different. It talked about 48yr old conjoined twin sisters named Lori and George Schappell. They are conjoined at the head. Lori is able bodied, but George has spina bifida, which stunted her growth. These women are truly amazing. They have done more things and gone more places than I have. Although they are conjoined they still live seemingly separate lives. Lori is a singer and plays guitar, while George will hold the microphone for her. To support her sister George pays for her ticket just like any other fan would. George designed the stool that she uses as her way of getting around with Lori. After watching these women it really opened my eyes. Although I think I do a pretty good job of believing I can accomplish anything I put my mind to; these women really made me want to wipe the word can’t out of my vocabulary. They prove that no matter what your flaws or weaknesses are, you really can find a way to make things work. Lori is an award-winning bowler A bowler! Seriously, I suck at bowling and she has another person attached to her and she wins awards for bowling. These women could have taken the “poor me” route and had caregivers take care of them their whole life, but they chose to live their life to its full potential. There are many able bodied people out there that make more excuses for themselves than Lori and George do. It really makes you look foolish for even complaining about your circumstances. Remember Thomas The Train cartoon and books? He would always say “I think I can, I think I can.” That is a great message for young kids. As adults we should look at any new situation the same way. Instead of I think I can, you should say I know I can! You can accomplish anything you put your mind to. There is always a way to make things work or improve your situation. Loving yourself and believing in yourself is so important. Also not letting other peoples opinions of you hold you back. Like in my blog “It’s All Just An Opinion” I talk about how we allow what other people think about us to hold us back. If Lori and George brushed off all the naysayers and have the confidence to go after their dreams, you should too! Nothing should ever hold you back, especially yourself. Be your own biggest cheerleader. Make people believe in you. Prove it to yourself that you can accomplish your dreams.

Love Always,

Excellent point! Inlove to always say to myself "Isaac do you want to take the next step in life or would you rather settle for who you are?" I wanna continue climbing up the mountain of success, I don't wanna fall off the ledge. I always say continue to push yourself to reach the bigger heights of the mountain, don't let the mountain crumble onto you because you decided to accept yourself as a failure and make excuses! Pursue your dreams!

ReplyDeleteOMG! I've never heard of them before! I'm amazed! They're amazing, really!
Everything u said it's true =) We all make up excuses to avoid doin' stuff. They hold us back. it's amazing how people who have any disabled person face life. I've always admired them. That's why we should be grateful because of the luck we have. And of course, what u said: we can do anything!
Thank you for writing this. It really means a lot to me. I have never heard of them, but I admire them so much. Those are people that inspire me everyday. I do have to admit that I give up on myself sometimes when its hard. I know I shouldn't do that, but I am working on that. I believe that I am getting better with everyday that passes by. Thank you for reminding me that I should always believe no matter how hard it seems.

Dear Sheri I apologize I am really late with the reply..... I remember that you were talking about this show on twitter.... well
ReplyDeleteyes ppl think to much about what they don't have instead of what they have and lot of ppl make excuse of theirself only see the bad things. You should be happy because of who you are.... you should be sattisfied with what you have and recorgnise how blessed you are.
Kurt Cobain once said "Wanting to be someone else is a waste of the person you are" and yes it's so true.... I dislike how pessimistic ppl talk about myself and it makes me cry when I see reports about ppl who have like nothing and feel so blessed for the little things while we are talking about highschool population stuff and like everyone is pretty but me and so on....
last thursday I was watching a german reality show about a couple who is kinda famous in germany.... the woman comes originally from brazil and wanted to support a project about a brazilian boy called Gemision they were collecting money to donate.... and somehow the story got really close to her heart and she finally decided to go with her best friend down to brazil to visit this boy. He is about 10 years old and has a desease because his feets are like twisted and he can't walk and when they asked him what his biggest dream is he said he wants to play soccer.... I was pretty much crying when he said that because I can't even imagine how he must have felt... and even tho he was never able to walk and he lives in a ghetto in Sao Paulo (if i am not mistaken) has no father only a mum.... and still he is happy. And thankful for what he has even in my country that would be... like nothing.
Okay I am talking a lot but I just wanted to share this.... and yes Sherri you are right we have to stop to make excuses for ourselfs we have to stop to cpmplain we have to see how beautiful life is....
“Be thankful for what you have you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have you will never, ever have enough.” - Oprah Winfrey
"be the change you wish to see in the world" - Mahatma Ghandi
life is short and the minutes run away but each person who realized what you were writing sheri.... that ppl shouldn't make excuses for themself are a huge step closer to find happiness in themselves... which is probably one of the best and most beautiful feeling ever.
Think about it ppl pls do (:
xx Mira
This reminds me of the man with no Legs who crawled the Kakoda trail. If you know in Papua New Guinea the kakoda trail (dense Jungle/rainforest), its one of the toughest trails in the world. etc heres an English article on Kurt Fearnley: http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/more-sports/australias-most-inspirational-athlete-confronts-the-toughest-challenge-of-his-amazing-life/story-e6frey6i-1225738549918
ReplyDeleteWhen ever you believe you can't do something always remember that someone is always doing it tougher than you. so count your blessings and start beliving! you won't get anywhere if you don't just go.
you just may need the inspiration to keep "MOVING FORWARD"- Nicole Scherzinger.. so get listening, researching and get inspired. "Don't cha know you can go and be your own miracle"- Stand up to Cancer
